| A. | Closed-ended tomcat catheter. | ||
| 1. | Closed end is atraumatic. | ||
| 2. | Catheter has a curved shape. | ||
| III. | Placement | ||
| A. | The patient is heavily sedated or anesthetized. | ||
| B. | Position patient in ventral recumbency over a sandbag with legs slightly spread and the body completely symmetrical. | ||
| C. | Use alcohol to flatten hair around vulva. | ||
| D. | Hold lubricated catheter with the curve pointing downward. | ||
| E. | Spread vulva with fingers, place catheter on the exact center of the floor of the vaginal vestibule, and slide it downward. | ||
